Be the Change Summit

I’m glad I get to learn, each new day.

Before Parliament sitting this morning I took time to open the “BE THE CHANGE Summit” organised by Singapore Fashion Council (SFC).

The summit is a pinnacle of thought leadership in Singapore’s fashion industry where innovation, culture, and sustainability converge to shape the future of fashion.

I had a really interesting time learning about sustainability and circular fashion.

Motivated to do something about the millions of tonnes of textile waste generated annually, fashion industry leaders gather to discuss, strategise, and make changes together.

Some are championing inclusion, whether through dignified employment opportunities for neurodivergent artisans who handcraft jewellery, or by using design as a bridge for cross-cultural collaboration in a circular fashion.

And many are driving material innovation — like the use of biodegradable eri silk. Unlike traditional silk, this method allows the pupa to emerge before the fibre is harvested, ensuring the moths are not harmed.

Bravo, SFC President Sharon Lim and SFC CEO Zhang Ting Ting and team, and all the amazing fashion and sustainability leaders I met, like Anne-Laure Descours, PUMA’s Chief Sourcing/Sustainability Officer!

Thanks for being the change leaders in this mission and doing us proud!
