Silver Homes Initiative @ Central Singapore District
THANK YOU AGAIN, angels who came to clean and create safe and clean homes for our thousands of seniors in the Central District!
What does a clean and less cluttered home mean to a senior?
For many of our seniors living in rental flats, it means breathing a little easier, walking a little safer, and sleeping a little better at night.
The SILVER HOMES initiative was started by our CDC to create healthier, safer, and cleaner living spaces for them through spring cleaning, painting, pest treatment, and even replacing old bedframes and mattresses.
Over the years, what has touched me most is not just the fresh coat of paint or the cleared clutter, but the folks (volunteers) who keep coming back.
Year after year, students, SAF personnel, corporate and community partners show up to scrub floors, shift furniture, and chat with seniors they may never meet again.
Friends from schools like Cedar Girls’ and our IHLs, our SAF units, and corporates such as Micron, Unilever, and Hewlett Packard Enterprise — you have truly stuck your necks out for our seniors.
Our Active Ageing Centres, from NTUC Health and Lions Befrienders to the Chinatown AACs at Chin Swee, Banda, and Jalan Kukoh; Jalan Besar AAC; PeaceConnect; MWS AAC at Jalan Berseh; and more — YOU are also key anchors in this journey of care. Without your inputs, Silver Homes would just be a good idea on paper.
Thank you all for choosing to roll up your sleeves again and again, so our seniors can live with more dignity and comfort. This is #WhyWeDoWhatWeDo at Central Singapore CDC!
