Jobs are important. A job is not just about income. It gives dignity, confidence, routine, purpose and hope for oneself and one's family.
That is why my Central Singapore CDC team formed a special partnership with e2i through the Jobs Nearby @ CDC programme.
We want to help residents — especially seniors, caregivers, persons with disabilities, mid-career workers and those restarting life — find meaningful jobs, preferably closer to home. At the same time, we also want to support businesses (profit and not-for-profit) struggling with manpower needs.
One heartwarming example is Uggli Muffins at Toa Payoh West Market. After years of difficulty hiring, our Job Ambassadors helped connect them with residents living nearby. A simple match perhaps — but one that made life better for both employer and employees.
Our Job Ambassadors do more than job matching. They journey with residents, encourage them, connect them to opportunities and training, and help businesses find suitable workers within the community.
As technology and AI continue changing the way we work, we must ensure opportunities remain accessible, practical and human-centred — so that no one is left behind.
