Parliamentary Sittings
Good parliamentary sittings this week, with three important Bills (GST; Carbon Tax; Online Safety) passed. And 3 Parliamentary Questions on issues close to my heart and some of my residents.
The staggered GST hike comes with a design difference in Singapore with, for example, permanent transfers to lower-income households.
The Carbon Tax to mitigate climate change worries is a first in Singapore.
And Online Safety is now officially legislated especially to protect our young.
The three Parliamentary Questions I raised this week are on :
(1) Resourcing training of future educators whose roles have changed ;
(2) Ensuring HDB Rental eligibility and rental rates are kept reasonable to help workers whose wages have risen as a result of the progressive wage model; and
(3) Call to reimagine HDB rental models that now sometimes create tensions between co-tenants who genuinely cannot live together.
All of which the Ministries had given me reasonable responses - I will continue to track progress.
