Thankful for Those Who Keep Our City Safe
I received news about a fire on my way home from our weekly Meet-the-People session and after bidding goodnight to volunteers for the night (I thought).
Checked out the construction site fire; thanked the amazing Singapore Civil Defence Force firefighters and police; plus the neighbours next to the site who graciously offered drinks to the 5 construction workers who were thankfully safe.
Investigations are ongoing but it seems like the cause is an equipment (boom lift?) — we'll know.
Every fire is of course one fire too many.
After spending the last 2 days helping to host city leaders at the World Cities Summit where city problems are discussed widely, I cannot help but again feel so much gratitude to our everyday heroes like the police, firefighters who keep our city safe.
Our city is kept going by so many — public service folks, volunteers, migrant workers, businesses — I'm really thankful.
