We first make our habits, and then our habits make us.
This saying, often attributed to English poet John Dryden, reminds us that the small actions we repeat each day eventually shape our character, identity and future.
That is why my Central Singapore CDC team runs The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People® programme for our youths and young adults.
Based on Dr Stephen Covey's well-known principles, the programme helps participants learn to take responsibility for their choices, set meaningful goals, manage their priorities, listen with empathy, work well with others and keep growing.
Not merely habits for school or work. They are habits for life.
In a fast-changing and often distracting world, our young people need more than knowledge and qualifications. They need strong values, self-awareness, confidence and the ability to build healthy relationships.
Good habits may begin with small, daily choices — but over time, they can shape capable individuals, caring leaders and contributing members of our community.
That is why this is such a worthwhile investment in our young people — and in our shared future.
