“Over-achievers” is how I would describe the volunteers behind Kampong Glam Division’s youth volunteers at a self-initiated book collection and gifting exercise.
The annual BOOKS TO BRING HOME initiative, started four years ago by primary school students Fabian and Alexis, is a ground-up project we are all very proud of.
This year’s target was to collect 3,000 books to sort, clean and give away to younger children, to encourage reading, sustainability and sharing.
The result: 12,000 books collected, with many youth volunteers and family life champions helping out over several weekends.
The team also secured support from venue sponsor City Square Mall, which hosted the book browsing and distribution last weekend.
I am very proud of all the volunteers, and of the few CC staff working behind the scenes despite having many other responsibilities, and I invite you to join the next annual exercise so we can scale up and help many more.
