Solar Farm in Singapore
Did you know that Singapore already has its own floating solar farm — and more are on the way?
I recently visited the Sembcorp Tengeh Floating Solar Farm, our first inland one, together with my GPC (Trade and Industry) team mates and MTI MOS Gan Siow Huang. Hosted by MP Valerie Lee who works there.
It was eye-opening — especially with recent electricity cost hikes and volatile global conditions affecting us all. This isn't a small issue; it's a major national concern.
Some quick facts:
Over 122,000 floating solar panels
Spanning 45 hectares
Capacity of 60MWp, making it one of the world's largest inland floating solar farms
The energy generated helps power PUB's water systems and cuts carbon emissions — equivalent to:
Powering ~16,000 four-room HDB flats, or
Taking 7,000 cars off the roads every year
Right now, Singapore relies on natural gas for 95% of our energy needs, but we're working hard to boost solar to 10% of our domestic supply.
Big challenges lie ahead, but steps like these show we're moving in the right direction.
Every effort counts — and every one of us has a role to play in building a greener, more resilient Singapore.
Keep believing, keep supporting, and let's power through this together!
